Windows XP, Vista and 7 have many protected directories that cannot be deleted easily, even if you pull out the harddisk and plug it in to another PC/laptop as an additional drive. Even force delete and file assassin failed to delete winsxs, system32 and others (in Windows.old folder). For alternative, I use Hiren’s Boot CD to delete the unwanted files/directories. But it was not working too.
The NTFS file system is blocking us to delete those files. The first step is to take over the ownership. To enable it, use gpedit (in Windows interface, open cmd/DOS prompt and type gpedit, then press enter). After that, get some file/folder properties modification to take over the ownership. Next, modify the authorization of the files/folders from read-only to full-control.
Finally, just press the delete button after selecting the unwanted files/folders.
